Pd W A cool story, but didn't quite grip me. Maybe it was too short, but nothing seemed as grueling as it had to have been Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Wayne F Too bad Sean Bean had anything to do with this mess. Absolutely not one of better efforts. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Mike D Weak character development led to poor commitment to the plot and the actors. Disappointing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Nick They say the film is based on the real-life events of the formation of Ian Fleming's 30 Commando unit during World War II. And they use Danny Dyer to play a Commando, he's about as far from being able to act a Commando as you can get I would say, B film with very poor acting. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/22/22 Full Review Audience Member I'll watch Sean Bean paint a fence or read a newspaper, so I guess I'm biased and won't blame him for this so-so flick. And Danny Dyer was pretty good. But there were a few nits; eg. taking BOTH dog tags from the dead fellow. No: only one - the other stays with him. And why were the Nazis the only guys that figured out snow camouflage? All the commandos were running around in jungle camo IN THE SNOW. Interesting that they were all using US Thompson submachine guns (or the German subs - didn't the Brits make one?). But...the ending...what happened to the Major? And Mac the Sergeant? Are we to assume the "saved the last bullet for themselves"? Pretty limp ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review a a A WW2 movie that feels like it was made by people that have seen a lot of WW2 movies...but maybe not studied it in detail. The commandos did some questionable things, the Germans were fairly cartoonish (but screw them), and there was just no authenticity to the time period. Also some of the military culture felt more American than British and there was plenty of "well that would never happen" BUUUUTTT having said all that, if you're in the mood for a action/drama set in WW2, it's entertaining enough. Allan Hunter Daily Express (UK) The gruelling training, clandestine mission and sacrifice is familiar Boy's Own stuff but the lack of a decent budget really hurts the film. Rated: 2/5 May 20, 2011 Full Review Graham Young Birmingham Mail Dyer has forged a career around screen violence which can leave a very unpleasant aftertaste. But this is a relatively conventional Second World War story about seizing Nazi radar technology from occupied Norway and he's all the better for it. Rated: 3/5 May 20, 2011 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall This film's shoestring budget is just far too apparent, making it impossible to take seriously. But it has its moments. Rated: 2/5 May 19, 2011 Full Review Damon Wise Radio Times Bean and Danny Dyer butt heads in an engaging manner, and the icy locations add an atmospheric backdrop. Rated: 3/5 May 19, 2011 Full Review Neil Smith Total Film Two sequels are planned, God help us. Rated: 2/5 May 18, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews
