AKA doesn’t add any new wrinkles to the undercover cop genre; but Florent Astolfi’s cinematography is suitably moody, Etienne Forget’s score provides texture and drive, and Lenoir and Dalibert (who co-wrote the script) keep the conflicts clear. (Dalibert) and Lenoir spend a lot of time developing their characters. It’s not especially deep, but we get a good sense of everyone’s position, perspective, and personality. Good people, bad people. People working for gang 1 or gang 2 or cops or undercover agents. The few that are not dying are the main actor (who is, in the end, rather unlikeable in how cold-blooded he kills everyone) and two kids. Too much. You can guess what could have happened to make people the way they were and they did give some back story eventually to the main guy, but why did he do the first scene? Why were others the way they were, what were they actually doing at the moment? It was unclear.
