Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express This Nushrratt Bharuccha-starrer makes for a tiring watch, where all you do is wonder how we are meant to swallow the going-ons on screen. Rated: 1/5 Aug 24, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Akelli is such a relentlessly moronic film, it almost seems like a parody of bad movies, except this awful action flick takes itself way too seriously. The airplane scene toward the end is one of the worst. Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Anuj Kumar The Hindu The idea of putting a young, ordinary girl in Mosul where the Islamic State is spreading its tentacles prepares us for a realistic, living-on-the-edge kind of experience but what we get is typical Bollywood theatrics. Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Ishita Sengupta OTTplay In the filmmaker's intent of showcasing the protagonist's strength, the filmmaker confuses courage with bravery, instinctiveness with deliberation. Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV This tale of a woman cornered and fighting for dear life had the potential to be a thrilling, edge-of-the-seat ripsnorter. It falls way, way short. The lacklustre Akelli is a film best left alone. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Rahul Desai Film Companion The bar is so low right now that Akelli feels middling by virtue of not being too tasteless. In a previous era, I’d have stated that it could have been better. But today, I believe it could have been worse. Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Muhammad M R Acting of heroine and the story line. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Carl C This is what happens when you make movies just for the sake of it. Unbearable. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/23 Full Review Mirza M 'Akelli' is a lackluster survival thriller led by an outstanding Nushrratt Bharuccha. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Baibhav K I just saw this film and I believe it is a very well-made film for the most part, the story is of an Indian woman who was unfortunately trapped in Mosul, Iraq during the ISIS takeover and the film deals with how the woman, played amazingly well by Nushrat Barucha, deals with the situation she is stuck in. The entire focus of the movie is Nushrat, she carries the film completely on her petite back and is a perfect cast for the role, her amazing acting skills shows how she feels shock, fear , is vulnerable, helpless and is at odds with such a terrifying predicament. The movie is for the most part at a good pace, slowing only in the beginning with some lackluster music , the characterization is very good, the actors chosen to be militants is very authentic and real, and the dialogues are absolutely real, requiring translation in a few places which the subtitles show. The movie is only 2 hours long and is not a slog and the main antagonist is the Israeli actor from the famous series Fauda, Tsahi Halevi, who does an amazing job. The main friend of the protagonist is Nishant Dahiya, who does a great job at portraying emotions through his character of Rafiq. The movie is on an important topic as well, a real life story and goes to show how terrifying life can be for human beings in such conflict ridden areas and the sadness about how cheap human life can be for fellow humans driven by dangerous politics and ideology. All in all, Akelii is a good film and is carried by an absolutely terrific acting performance by Nushrat Barucha and is a well made film on a sad but true aspect of human society.
