Gore without scares and cardboard cut-out characters make this clash of the monsters a dull sit.

Jessica Winter Time Out The title alone betrays an entire Hollywood mindset of rehash, reheat, recombine. Re-please. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Empire Magazine Sadly devoid of any real thrills. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2006 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Unsurprisingly mediocre. Rated: C May 3, 2005 Full Review Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex While Paul W.S. Anderson arrived with blockbuster experience in his background, Alien vs. Predator quickly felt outside his comfort zone. The resulting flick has moments of joy, but feels like a lesser entry for both franchises. Rated: 3/10 Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania It was mindless fun watching the two iconic monsters fighting against each other but the problem is, the movie spends considerable time focusing on the human characters. Justin T I don’t hate this film although it is a creatively bankrupt, paint-by-numbers Hollywood film that has forgettable and stereotypical characters. It's pretty one dimensional and there’s no way to care for any of the characters, they are all so generic. Therefore it’s conceptually flawed. This contradicts the Prometheus (2012) storyline, neither storyline is good so I count both storylines as non-canon. It’s only worth watching for Alien or Predator completionists. It’s mostly a Predator movie and that is the weaker franchise. What it does well: Plenty of machismo; the balance between practical and CGI effects was acceptable; it didn’t add much to the lore but did reinforce it albeit non-canon; when it gets going it is engaging and fun because it isn’t serious; the Aliens are aliens. What it doesn’t do well: The Predator isn’t much of a predator as it makes friends with the prey; the violence is muted; the characters/movie are forgettable; the build up is too long; the versus element is under-cooked. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Andrew T Don't take it too seriously and it's fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Mihai Daniel P Why the hate? It has aliens, it has predators, the effects are good, the plot is fairly decent and it moves at a good pace... yes, a R rating would have helped it but even without it it's still a serviceable pop-corn movie. Sorry to say it but such a crossover wouldn't have worked if done in the same "build tension for half the movie until the big reveal and showdown" style as each movie does, nor as a straight up horror one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Matthew P No scares, cardboard cut-out characters, and a simplistic plot weigh down this attempt to bring two exceptionally successful franchise creatures into collision... but the setting and effects are good, so as long as you're seeking some undemanding fun, this is worth a watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Ryan H Part decent ALIEN film, part decent PREDATOR film, but never matches the greatness of either franchises’ best films. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Jordy M “Alien vs. Predator” (2004) is a film that attempts to merge two iconic sci-fi franchises into a single spectacle. Visually, the movie delivers with improved creature designs and environments that are both intricate and atmospheric. The special effects, particularly the set pieces and the look of the predators, stand out as some of the film’s strengths. However, the movie struggles to create a convincing connection between its characters. The performances often feel stiff, making it difficult to become invested in their fates or relationships. The plot, while built on an intriguing premise that ties together the mythologies of both franchises, sometimes falls into predictable territory and leaves several questions unanswered. Despite these shortcomings, the film remains entertaining, especially for fans eager to see the legendary creatures face off. The action sequences and visual flair make for a watchable experience, even if the narrative and character development leave something to be desired. Overall, “Alien vs. Predator” is a visually engaging crossover that prioritizes spectacle over substance, offering enough entertainment value for those who appreciate sci-fi action.
