At the start of World War I, Paul Baumer (Richard Thomas) is a young German patriot, eager to fight. Indoctrinated with propaganda at school, he and his friends eagerly sign up for the army soon after graduation. But when the horrors of war soon become too much to bear, and as his friends die or become gravely wounded, Paul questions the sanity of fighting over a few hundreds yards of war-torn countryside. The film is based on the classic novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.

Diego Galán El Pais (Spain) The authenticity of the battles, the realism of its consequences, and the wise use of emotions leave the public with a dry taste, a justified discomfort. alan g Good version but Richard Thomas is weak in the title role. Still a powerful movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Pablo H I really like this version-try and see the full version as it aired on the Hallmark Hall of Fame, and not the later shortened film. Very good quality for a made for TV movie. Faithful to the story and well acted. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review Gortee U i will ignore about techology because it's an old movie, but i will say that, it protraies war and life in the war more better that the newer versions of it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Steve C That ending. People in the business of life and death can't get distracted by life Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/14/23 Full Review Amir K Its show a real detail about war Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review Georgan G The novel was a new genre: peace encouraged by graphic war stories. Hasn't cured us yet, but is a noble cause. Glad I'm watching all 3 film versions, as each has its own unique slant. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
