A six-year-old and her beloved Cape Verdean nanny are given one last summer to say goodbye in Marie Amachoukeli's moving drama. Go to Full Review

It’s tempting to read a colonial narrative in Cléo’s reluctant surrender of the only maternal figure she has ever known. But Louise Mauroy-Panzani’s uncanny performance ensures we’re solely fixated on the child’s psychodrama. Go to Full Review

The mixed media technique cuts through the film’s naturalism to bring forth something felt and ineffable, akin to the rich, vivid worlds within children’s imaginations, as well as the haziness with which we recall childhood memories. Go to Full Review

Overall, Áma Gloria is a sweet and tender movie with beautifully complex characters – Cléo may very well be one of the best-written child characters I have seen on screen in a very long time – and an emotional narrative. Go to Full Review

Derek M 08/02/2024 This film deserves its 100% Rotten toms rating. Louise Mauroy Panaini, who plays six year Cleo, is a delight. And the feelings between her and Gloria, her nanny, are truly authethic and endearing. It is a journey of tender feeling, and is heading for my dvd collection. See more Veronica T 06/27/2024 A rare and wonderful film. Simple and restrained, profound and moving (how the director coaxed such convincing, touching acting from both leads is anyone's guess), this little film - against stiff opposition such as "Zone of Interest" - is my "movie of the year" so far. No ifs and buts - just go, enjoy, shed a tear and be astonished at how simple movie-making can produce something as perfectly convincing as this. See more Sue G 06/19/2024 A truly heart-warming & heart-breaking film. A small film with a big impact. Loved it. See more Jon T @jon_talbot56 06/14/2024 I can say with certainty that everyone in the audience where l saw this thinks it a wonderful film as there were only five of us. Small film but wonderful.
