In this film of unconnected humor sketches, bad movies and late-night television are parodied extensively. A doctor (Griffin Dunne) has to help Brenda (Michelle Pfeiffer) give birth, with unexpected results. In "Son of the Invisible Man," Griffin (Ed Begley Jr.) is actually more naked than invisible. Among the many other segments, there is a spoof of alarmist 1950s hygiene instructional films featuring a woman (Carrie Fisher) being harshly advised about her new sexually transmitted disease.

Variety Staff Variety Amazon Women on the Moon is irreverent, vulgar and silly and has some hilarious moments and some real groaners too. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Slim pickings. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times An anarchic, often hilarious adventure in dial-spinning, a collection of brief skits and wacko parodies that are sometimes quite clever, though they're just as often happily sophomoric, too. Rated: 3.5/5 May 20, 2003 Full Review Kathy Fennessy Seattle Film Blog Amazon Women on the Moon duplicates the experience of watching late-night TV in the 1980s... Rated: 3/4 Mar 6, 2022 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey Crooked Marquee There appears to be a running, eerily prophetic theme in Amazon, as most of the skits deal with how advancements in technology - particularly television and home video - often sabotage our lives. Audience Member Roger Corman presents another one of his comedies much like Monty Python and David Zucker A mixture of 1950s satirical science-fiction movies and interspersing some spoof commercials Tons of celebrity cameos from Joe Pantoliano to Michelle Pfeiffer to Sybil Danning to Rosanna Arquette to Carrie Fisher to Kelly Preston to BB King to Jenny Agutter to Steve Gutenberg It's funny how the title is shown twice yet the actual moon portion doesn't happen until 20 minutes later At that point the ads created keep popping up to sell the satire of our addiction to television They poke fun at everything from childbirth to hair growth to political party support to the complicated world of dating to mystery shows to reviewing cinema to home video rentals The Amazon women section plays like a parody of planet of the apes right down to 3 astronauts landing on an unknown world, only in this scenario it's populated by strictly women The narrative is very scattershot in this but it's all about providing some good chuckles The very last skit involving a guy who rents a videotape is my favorite if I do say so myself going from sizzling to straight up funny This duplicates watching late night tv in the 80s that's for sure Sure of the skits miss the mark more than others but it's all good fun regardless Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review Steve D Never funny and no story. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/23 Full Review Audience Member But dated but probably also ahead of it’s times 2.5 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Audience Member 7/10 quirky, strange, funny. Not for everybody. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I really don't know what I found soo fun about this when I was younger. Was it REALLY just all the boobs...? As with most sketch movies, it's uneven. Some segments work, some don't. Most here though are groaners. Still though, there's a couple skits that still work like gangbusters. The Invisible Man and Video Pirates ones in particular. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/26/20 Full Review Audience Member Amazon Women on the Moon fails to be as funny or as clever as it could be. The first person framework is a terrific idea but it doesn't deliver the same successful comedy that Kentucky Fried Movie did. Blame can be put on either the lack of ZAZ or the fact most of jokes don't work as well as they could. Some jokes aren't funny; some jokes are clever but lack substance beyond their initial concept however some sketches are well written and directed. The all-star cast is fun to watch and the directors do the best job they can with the material but it all hinges on the jokes, few which are very well done. It's about finding a diamond in the rough...or some diamonds. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. In a way finding a good sketch is no different to flicking through TV channels every day.
