American Honey offers a refreshingly unconventional take on the coming-of-age drama whose narrative risks add up to a rewarding experience even if they don't all pay off.

A completely gorgeous and remarkable film... American Honey manages to depict the desperation of being a poor young person in a forgotten corner of America without condescending to or worshipping its destitute characters. Go to Full Review

American Honey is undeniably gorgeous. It's drenched in color; it drips with it like, yes, honey. In the center of it all is Sasha Lane as Star, just as bright (if not brighter), and impossible not to watch. Go to Full Review

It's the strategic vaporousness of the entire enterprise-its canny refusal to be "about" anything except an immersion its own roiling, over-conscientiously detailed millennial milieu-that rankles. Go to Full Review

It's all the fixins. Pistol-whipped to perfection. My teeth positively ache for another helping of American Honey; I wanna eat until I pass right out. Go to Full Review

Arnold's acumen with the subversiveness that lurks just beneath the surface is playfully reserved, bubbling up only when absolutely necessary. Go to Full Review

Randy B @Oinkenstein 3h Wife and I sat all the way through it’s 2 3/4 hours run time, both waiting for something that never came, unless desperation was the goal; if so well done. It definitely reflected a reality few find compelling, but an obvious modern slap of gritty reality. The only future it painted was bleak. It was well filmed, and captivating as it kept both of us waiting. We both wondered if the often celebrated dinner table scenes in Firefly were attempting to be portrayed in the van in the form of glorifying road trip? One massive win was that you were the camera. A task few ever come close to pulling off. See more Eric W @RandlePMcMurphy 2d I know there’s probably some sort of meaningful message that I’m supposed to take away from this film, but all I could think about was the fact that I have/had children who were in the post high school age range, and thank God they haven’t gotten into anything like this. These young people seemed like a less violent version of Kubrick’s Clockwork Orange gang. Just a bunch of assholes that you don’t ever wanna run into anywhere. I don’t know if this kinda magazine sales/pimp relationship actually exists in real life, but my goodness this just seems so disgusting to me, although not nearly as wrong as the other pimp relationship scenario. I thought this was gonna be a happy group of young traveling hippies on a long road trip, but instead it was something way worse. See more Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life Jan 20 A wild and crazy ride with kids. Shia labeouf leads a wonderful cast as they head on the road Trip of a lifetime selling magazine subscriptions. There's nothing shocking in this movie unless you don't like nudity. I will say though the boss character in this movie was useless. Not a lot of drama but it's still a good watch. Tim Treakle See more James B Jan 10 I think the biggest complaint that I have is that this movie is about an hour too long. I think the story was just so so and really didn't warrant needing almost 3 hours to tell it. That being said the film's appearance is very well done. I thought that the way that the visuals were created in the film were well done, but the so so storry and total film time kind of brought it down for me. See more joseph S. @BazookaJoe13 Nov 17 American Honey is hypnotic in a way that sneaks up on you. It doesn’t feel like a movie — it feels like being dropped into someone else’s life and just riding along, watching everything play out with no filter. Sasha Lane is unreal, completely natural, and the whole cast feels lived-in. The film nails the feeling of youth: the chaos, the drifting, the freedom that doesn’t even feel like freedom sometimes. The soundtrack hits, the visuals pull you in, and the whole thing moves like a road trip you don’t want to end. It’s immersive, honest, and it sticks with you without ever trying to be deep See more joe m Aug 3 I sold magazines from 2003-2006 travel like this thru the entire U.S. this movie brings the best moments I lived and shows how fun and crazy it was at times.
