Audience Member Edy is so adorable and makes this movie which is a cute movie but nothing new as dreaming of going into tv (Pleasantville with Reese Witherspoon & Toby McGuire, number of Twilight Zone Episodes, etc.) land but this time a novella. As a Hispanic conquistador I was glad to see no Spanish speaking as I don't know the language as a 4th generation father & 3rd generation mother. What made the movie was Edy as she is really adorable and was the naïve believable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It was... maybe too childish for my taste, the trailer did make it look better than it actually was Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review farah r A smart idea for a story told well through the good acting. This movie is really funny and lighthearted despite its low budget. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A body swap film from a fresh perspective - what if you could switch bodies with your favorite TV character (or telenovela actress). Edy is a bright young actress with great comic timing and just the right amount of slapstick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this fun film. Great performances by the entire cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw Ana Maria in Novela Land with my mom, my aunt, and friends. A wonderful mother-daughter date. We all loved it. Clever writing. A little like Soapdish, but funnier. Edy Ganem is convincing as two different people. She is adorable. Carla Morrison's music was beautiful, I want the soundtrack. Michael Steger is a stud as the leading man in the soap, however he is more lovable when he played the boy next door. He is the reason I wanted to see this movie. I'm a Bones fan: happy to see Tamara Taylor. Elizabeth Pena reminded me of my own mom. Sad that she passed away; I love that the movie was dedicated to her. Luis Guzman was silly-creepy, the best kind of villain. Mercedes Masohn was poignant. Novela Land landscapes could easily be captured as a stills to be framed as gorgeous pictures to be enjoyed on the walls at home. I was carefree and took a mini vacation into the movie's fun, dual worlds. This is a sweet, feel-good movie I'd like to own because it kept me laughing. Inkoo Kang TheWrap This switching-places comedy warmly and trenchantly sends up the telenovela genre's swooning melodrama and oversexed-but-prudish contradictions. May 19, 2015 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety A lightly amusing comedy about an avid fan who trades places with the star of a popular telenova. Mar 3, 2015 Full Review Noel Murray The Dissolve The comedy is never all that funny, and some scenes fall noticeably flat, either because the cast isn't strong enough, or because the production as a whole lacks polish. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 2, 2015 Full Review Leo Brady AMovieGuy.com Ana Maria in Novela Land has a heartfelt message of family and fun, all at the expense of telenovela silliness. Rated: 3/4 Jan 31, 2021 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy Let me start off by saying that Ana Maria in Novela Land is silly, but intentionally so-and that self-awareness is part of its charm. Nov 9, 2018 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Perhaps fans of Mexican soap operas will best enjoy the broad humor in this uneven romantic comedy. Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Read all reviews
