Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times There's a potentially smart and sexy lesbian dramedy at the heart of "Anchor and Hope" that gets lost amid idiosyncratic filmmaking and a lack of narrative discipline. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Amy West Empire Magazine With its predictable story unlikely to leave a lasting impression, it's left to Chaplin and Tena's natural chemistry and performances to make Carlos Marques-Marcet's second feature-length film worth your while. Rated: 3/5 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian It's a thoughtful, honest and touching work, especially for women who love women, and also love canals. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2018 Full Review Víctor López G. Espinof A magnetic journey that reconfirms that cinema is nothing more than a reflection of real life. [Full Review in Spanish] Aug 5, 2019 Full Review Laura Davis One Room With A View Don't get sold into the light-hearted, bittersweet, sugar-coated casing of this film. David Verdaguer's scene-stealing performance simply can't save Anchor and Hope from its archaic representation of women. Who let this be made? Rated: 2/5 Feb 21, 2019 Full Review Sarah Manvel Critic's Notebook Where Anchor and Hope badly misfires is in the assumptions it makes about what women want, and how women get it. Liam D There are some great performances by an solid cast but I wished the script was better Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review Audience Member This was a lovely and nuanced love story. The characters were very real, flawed and multi-faceted and the acting understatedly superb. It somehow managed to avoid all the cliches of a love story. The muted, somewhat grungy colors were used to great effect, as were costumes and set design. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Felt like I was watching children in adult bodies... stunted development at its finest but doesn't make for an entertaining movie. It was so bad I couldn't even get through 30 minutes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Just beautifully funny and emotional! Definitely a must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved it. It's brilliant and addressing problems we have in our generation. It was so well put together and entertaining beginning to the end Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Lo mejor las estilizadas escenas en los canales de Londres, Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
