      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Filled with inspired silliness and quotable lines, Anchorman isn't the most consistent comedy in the world, but Will Ferrell's buffoonish central performance helps keep this portrait of a clueless newsman from going off the rails. Read critic reviews

While not a fan of the typically over-the-top type of comedy that is Farrell (and so I avoided this work for many years), I literally was bashed into complacency by the first half hour of this actually decent commentary on televised news in the United States. There's a line about not touching the face or hair of the newscasters that's spot on and and indicative of the ego driven shenannigans that ensue. Yes. It's better than I thought it would be.

So much better than I expected, Yes the film got lots of praise from critics and viewers but there was just something about it that kept putting me off and the fact that I've never been the biggest Will Ferrell fan didn't help either, But I got round to watching it and I loved it (Most of the time) Some of the jokes came across too silly or cheesy and didn't work at all but there's was some pretty fresh unpredictable humour too that worked so well, The main reason this was so good was the cast, They were all terrific especially Paul Rudd and Steve Carell who were brilliantly funny, There's allot of cameos too that were fitted in nicely, No real main plot to talk about but it didn't need one as the humour and cast were more than enough to make this a good movie.

Silly, but funny. This is a hilarious "period comedy" set in the late 1970s. The fashion is spot on and the writing by Ferrell and McKay is great. So many quotable lines and remembered characters in this film. One of the more enjoyable sequences was the street fight between the rival news teams which was chock full of cameo appearances.

A hilarious newsroom comedy. The characters played by Will Ferrell and Steve Carell are especially awesome. There are so many quotable lines that are still said today ("60% of the time, it works every time" being one of my favourites). The plot may be a little thin, but the jokes make up for this. The funniest comedy i have seen in a long time.
