Audience Member Gritty, but not that engaging. Had the makings of a good Scarface-like crime-drama, but ultimately was disappointing. Story just wasn't that enthralling, or engaging. Is pretty much a join-the-dots blow-by-blow account of a crime lord's life. Little depth to the characters. Has some good action scenes and is quite gritty, but the movie lacks substance. Decent performances, however. Kim Rossi Stuart is great in the lead role. Supporting cast are solid too. Moritz Bleibtrau and Paz Vega will be familiar names to many viewers. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member good gangster bio-pic, of sorts Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Stylish, thrilling true-crime film based on the story of Italian mobster Renato Vallanzasca. Charismatically played by the superb Kim Rossi Stuart, there's validity in the argument that the film glamourises, sometimes even approves of his crimes. But there's real technical skill in front and behind of the camera and as a piece of cinema it's quite something. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Basically an Italian Mesrine, except he lives to make recycled bags. A bit too long, but it's a great ride. It's amazing how inept the guards are and how supportive his parents are after all he's done. That's amore! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Ã? sempre pericoloso mitizzare i criminali, e noi italiani siamo anche fin troppo bravi a farlo. Capisco farne un film biografia, ma da questo film Vallanzasca esce quasi come un eroe. Non esattamente l'idea del secolo. C'Ú da dire almeno era ben fatto e divertente. V.A. Musetto New York Post What is missing is any sort of psychological insight. Just what made Renato run? You won't find out here. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 17, 2011 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times To borrow Robert Evans's famous quotation about "The Godfather," you can smell the spaghetti, but less sauce might have helped. Rated: 2/5 Jun 16, 2011 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Gangster clichs fly like submachine gun bullets in the Italian crime biopic "Angel of Evil," a restless and hollow rundown of '70s criminal Renato Vallanzasca. Rated: 1.5/5 Jun 16, 2011 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Stuart gives a tour-de-force as Vallanzasca. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 2, 2020 Full Review Margherita Pellegrino CineVue Emotional, intense and truly shocking at times, the movie presents the known facts on a golden plate for the audience to make up their own mind. It's violent, raw, vibrating with tension and punctuated with clever irony. Rated: 4/5 Nov 10, 2018 Full Review Jeff Meyers Metro Times (Detroit, MI) Not to indulge in clich, but given that Rossi Stuart penned the script with five other writers, it probably shouldn't be a surprise that so many cooks created a meal that's all sauce and no spaghetti.
