06/01/2016 A startling look at depression. As Fassbinder has matured, so have his films. See more 11/13/2014 Fassbinder uses innovative techniques with music and camera work to convey drug addiction and depression in this uncompromising tv film. Maybe not one of his most polished works, but a lesser Fassbinder is still something to behold. See more 03/03/2014 Fassbinders story about a womans descent into depression See more 02/11/2014 Doesn't compare very well to Martha, which it superficially resembles. It's good, but it's a little too static and a little too neatly wrapped up at the end, and the "heat haze" effect is a lazy and pretty silly way to represent mental instability. See more 02/22/2013 Fassbinder uses giant close-ups of Margit Carstensen's face to good effect as she slowly loses it. Although still very stylized (especially in the acting department), this is a sensitive portrayal of mental illness. I expected over-the-top melodrama (based on Fassbinder's love of Sirk) and there are some more extreme elements but overall this is rather restrained and humanistic. I'm consistently amazed at the range of Fassbinder's oeuvre and his stock cast do not disappoint. See more 05/13/2012 A lesser-known work by Fassbinder, but it is equally as brilliant as his more popular films. See more Read all reviews
