Seth H Mar 8 Darkly entertaining horror-comedy about four adorably blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girls who fish their soon-to-be step father's kinky paraphernalia out of his belongings, conclude that their mother's erotic outbursts are proof that she's being sexually assaulted, and accordingly decide to murder her fiance. A teenaged baby-sitter also gets in the way of their project. The gallows humor gets extremely grim, and the final twist is merciless, but after all it is a horror movie, too. See more Laura B Feb 23 Just watched the movie and I had not read the description before watching so it was all a surprise as it went along. Yes, it was pretty horrifically dark! But, taking it as a story it was fabulous and I thought clever to tie in the hockey violence, Sean's understanding of how violent, and choosing to retire from it. The murder of the babysitter very dark but believable. The children, all real sisters even, were amazing. I have two younger sisters myself and being the oldest I have led the younger sisters into things, nothing like murder however. The actor who played Sean was also very good, I thought. So many good themes running through this about mothers, violence, adult sex/ consent, and of course communication. It probably won't be a movie I'd watch again but I won't forget it. See more Edward B 03/24/2024 There was real dark comedy potential in this story which is why it caught my eye; four girls 10 and under kill for their mother's attention. Unfortunately dark comedy never materializes, it dabbles lightly into slasher horror but provides little else. The script is weak and full of holes, the adult actors overcompensate for bad story and script. The child actors are convincing however, the two older girls solidly show breaks into psychpathy. The two younger girls are more innocent and show guilt and remorse, but this undermines earlier positioning that all four girls are unified in a sort of collective insanity. Bottom line, the story doesn't really work and falls apart. It was however interesting to see Colin Mochrie (of Whose Line is it Anyway?) take a serious role as a 'detective.' Unfortunately for Mochrie, very poor script combined with bad special effects and plot twists that add nothing and make no sense make his appearance unremarkable. See more 11/16/2021 Originally known as Cherrypicker, which was probably too Canadian of a title, Ankle Biters totally took me by surprise and took me on a wild ride with four of the worst behaved kids since Who Can Kill a Child? or Devil Times Five. Sean, a hockey goon, has fallen in love with Laura, a widowed mother of four young daughters. When their rough arrdvarking alerts the kids that their mother is being hurt — spoiler she isn't and it's just roleplay — they plan to protect her no matter what it takes. And what it takes is murder after murder. Comedy fans will recognize Colin Mochrie as Detective Morton, but otherwise this young cast was all new to me and they excel in all of their roles. There are some shocking moments here from start to finish and at no time was I bored or taken out of the story. In fact, I had a blast and I'd recommend that if you have an open mind, aren't easily offended and are ready to be taken aback, get this movie and indulge yourself. The only person I feel bad for is Sean, because the guy means well. His meaning well just makes things worse. And worse. And then even worse. See more Read all reviews
