Ace lawyer Ann Carver (Fay Wray) must balance her career with her marriage to fledgling architect Bill Graham (Gene Raymond). It is not always easy, as Bill's career flounders, and he decides to try and make it as a nightclub singer. When Ann becomes convinced that Bill is having an affair with sultry entertainer Carole (Claire Dodd), the couple separate. But when Carole is killed in an accident, Bill is accused of murder and the sympathetic Ann agrees to defend him.
