Audience Member I hve seen the older movies about Anne Shirley. I even read the book Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson. I enjoyed this movie as a new story about Anne, with Barbara Hershey playing an adult Anne who did a complete retelling of her youth as if it were a stage play.. As an avid fan of Anne Shirley, I found this story delightful and refreshing. I give it a thumbs up and felt it was an excellent production. I liked Shirley Maclaine as the elder Mrs. Thomas. All in all a very worthwhile movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A child Anne that seems to be uttering words and behaving too unreal as a child, even as a character. The film is too mushy and has many inconsistencies. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I wanted the original Anne Shirley. "Anne of Green Gables" is the best with the original Anne. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is pathetic, not only does it completely change the very nature of anne, But it even has the nerve to steal plot points from other stories and claim them as there own. For instance when Anne goes to live at the poor house the punishment scenes are copycats of Jane Eyre. The standing Anne on the stool and forbidding others to have any contact with her, the cutting of her hair claiming that her hair is the root of the rebellion in her, even the death of a friend in the asylum. This movie is not even worth watching. Watch the movies that they stole from instead. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie, it's amazing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member While not the best, most faithful adaption of Anne, it captures some of the heart of the original tale. Any book lovers will recognize revamped scenes from the novel, and will be furious at Sullivan for creating a fictional account of Anne's father, Walter Shirley. The movie was charming without being wonderful. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
