An avant-gutter psychedelic dream, ANYTHING THAT MOVES is an erotically charged, blood-soaked thriller set in the sticky corridors of Chicago. Shot on fleshy Super 16mm, director Alex Phillips' rust belt giallo continues on his trajectory of taboo-shattering horror cinema with this tense, funny, and absolutely twisted murder mystery. The film follows nubile sex worker Liam who bikes with his girlfriend--his partner in both business and pleasure--through the city delivering snacks and divine satisfaction to his love-hungry clients. Meanwhile, a serial killer's gory murders are piling up and all the evidence seems to point back to the lover's bed....

Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com As a filmmaker, Alex Phillips does have enough of a vision—garish as it may be—to suggest that he might one day make a genuinely solid film, even if he has not yet done so as of yet. Oct 27, 2025 Full Review Clint Worthington RogerEbert.com It’s chaotic, raunchy, and weirdly sweet for its bursts of violence Aug 22, 2025 Full Review Harper Rochel Goldman MovieJawn Fair warning: Anything That Moves isn’t for the faint-of-heart. Even fans of shock cinema may struggle with the stomach-turning climax. But the film’s most extreme moments are often paired with its most beautiful. Oct 8, 2025 Full Review Daniel Gorman In Review Online Anything That Moves is frequently very funny... seemingly as inspired by sketch comedy, improv, and Johnny Ryan’s Angry Youth Comix as they by giallo and De Palma. Aug 12, 2025 Full Review Deirdre Crimmins Rue Morgue Magazine A prime example of a filmmaker beginning to settle into their own voice in his sophomore film. Phillips builds on his visual style and storytelling skills and delivers a film more accessible, more polished and more naked (literally) than before. Aug 7, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews
