Nick Schager Film Journal International A hopelessly narrow and one-dimensional religious doc. Nov 23, 2016 Full Review Craig D. Lindsey Village Voice It is fascinating seeing people come to a holy place - a place that's more about love and spirituality than religion - with their hearts and minds open, just looking for guidance. Nov 23, 2016 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times A compelling but unnecessarily long-winded sociological study about a group of adults recruited to watch for signs and wonders in a small village in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Audience Member I saw this movie twice because the first time I saw it, I was so emotional that I missed seeing the last 10 minutes of the movie. Without revealing too much personal information, I would like to say that I don't believe that Holly would call herself a "victim". By the end of the movie, I believe Holly saw herself about to take the greatest spiritual trip one can ever take. She knew that her sweet kiddos and good, stalwart husband would be taken care of by Our Lady and she knew that she could continue on with the rest of her ultimate spiritual journey. As a survivor od cancer myself, I have never defined myself as a victim, just someone who was caught in the cosmic storm. The end of this movie is very intense. Children may react strongly to it. That being said, the end may provide a great segue way to having a deep and meaningful family conversation about religion, life and death decisions, and family values. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Best documentary I've ever seen. Struck me to the core (I stole that line from another review on here because it's so accurate). A must see for every person on this planet. Truly one of a kind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this movie about Medugorje. I thought it gave a very unbiased look at 7 people's journey's into faith and how it effects their lives. I especially appreciate their bringing along two atheists. Was extremely touched by Holly's journey especially. I strongly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Stuck me to the core. I'm very familiar with what is happening in Medjugorje (I've been learning about it for about 15 years and have visited), so for something about the events to have such an impact upon me is a big deal. This documentary is not so much a story about what is happening in Medjugorje (though there is context given) as it is about how we cope with the cards we're dealt in life. It's a film for everyone and my favorite character, ironically, is an atheist. Whether you're a Catholic or an atheist or an agnostic there is no doubt you'll walk away from this film with a better appreciation of how short and precious life is. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member You need only one thing to see this film and enjoy it- an open heart. I hosted this film and can say first hand, that the 200 people that viewed it came from many different spiritual places and religious views. And yet for 2 hours, we all undoubtedly experienced the universal message of love. Apparition Hill is more than a film, it is an experience. It takes you to the thin line between heaven and earth, that is Medjugorje. And not by a sermon or anything remotely preachy, but through the beating and vibrant hearts of people. People like you and I, believing and questioning, struggling and soaring. That is what makes this film beautifully done and impossible not to appreciate. But perhaps it's greatest achievement is the grace it grants with its hope for the entire world and the seeds it sows one person at a time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I have now seen this film 4 times and each time it has been like the first time. I don't know how it is possible, but this film transcends both time and space. The presence of the Holy Spirit pentrates the bigscreen and can be felt by each member of the audience in one way or another. Bloomfield and Kidonakis have outdone themselves!!! Academy Award bound for sure!!! The music is hauntingly beautiful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
