Audience Member This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The acting was horrible. Just horrible. You will have more fun walking barefoot across shards of broken glass. A colonoscopy will be more thrilling than this badly written crapfest. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member ** [[ Please find my notes at the end of this review. ASYLUM OF FEAR is a horror movie, I think the horror genre as a whole should be judged differently than other genres. I explain more below. Thanks! ]] ** ASYLUM OF FEAR is an amateurish, poorly edited piece of garbage. In my 30+ years of watching horror movies, I have easily seen thousands. This one is honestly in my top 10 worst of all time. The cast is hilariously terrible. The acting is awful. The scenes and visuals are almost inconceivably cheap looking. Suspension of disbelief in horror is a prerequisite, but it's almost impossible to take any of this seriously. The editing is haphazard and rushed. There are at least 5 or 6 occasions where dialogue is clipped before the end of a word of sentence. Conceptually, it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. I don't understand why this film was even made in 2017. How many terrible ghost hunting horror movies have we already seen where the main characters enter an abandoned asylum? It is easily one of the most tired tropes in horror. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about ASYLUM OF FEAR. Stay far away. Do not waste your time. ** I have always felt that in general, horror movies get cheated by critics/reviewers. If you're a fan of the horror genre as a whole, there's some campy elements that just come with the territory. You may even come to enjoy those idiosyncrasies (I do). In my humble opinion, it's what makes the horror genre so fun. With horror movies, I'm willing to look past particular flaws that I may not be as quick to forgive if it were a film from a different genre. I'm not expecting to have my mind blown the way THE USUAL SUSPECTS or INCEPTION first got me. I'm not looking for rich storytelling or fully-fleshed out characters that practically fall off of the screen like THE GODFATHER or GOODFELLAS. In short, I look at horror movies through a very different lens than I do other films. I encourage you to take that into account if you read this review. ** Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member 5/5 he pre-fired the corner Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't believe the 100% review. I'm thinking they ALL start out at 100% and the percentile changes via our ratings. Absolute rubbish. I thought to myself, finally a decent horror I can sit down and watch. Nope.
