Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard The film, shot through the siblings' video cameras, is obviously cheaply made. Still, it rachets up the tension better than most of its genre. Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2011 Full Review Xan Brooks Guardian The kids are screaming and the camera joggles us to the point of nausea but, at the end, the film's big reveal is just a cheap, dull shimmer. Rated: 2/5 Sep 15, 2011 Full Review Michael Atkinson Village Voice The filmmaker is betting the bank on the unstable Blair Witch textures, and damn if subjective footage of implacable darkness, with screams coming from the woods you can barely see, doesn't still make your motor neurons jump, spark, and tingle. Aug 16, 2011 Full Review Kevin Carr 7M Pictures there just isn't enough substance to stretch it out to a feature-length film Rated: 2/5 Oct 25, 2011 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 21, 2011 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) Mayhem occurs over a succession of nights, and yawns precede dawns. Kristina V I know a lot of people didn't like this, but I watched it just after it came out and I loved it, I had to stop watching it at night and finish it in the daylight because it creeped me out so badly, still to this day one of my favourite horror films. It could have been better yes but, it kept up the suspense and fear well for a smaller budget movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Not nearly as scary as it should've been. The running through the forest at night wasn't very scary because (a) not much happened, (b) it was way to dark to see anything and the camera was too shaky. Decent premise (not original. but a solid blueprint) but not executed well. During scenes with the most suspense and tension, the camera was too shaky and it was too dark. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a nice location, the house as well as the outsides, and this is all they came up with . . . I ended up skipping through it at some point because it didn't just bore me, but actually pissed me off. The last 15 minutes don't warrant for an hour of pure senseless boredom. If they were trying to build up tension, they failed . . . If you actually want to sit through this, make sure you get a dubbed version - I now know how aggrevating I find the Spanish language. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Some really intense visual queues to get behind, to be sure, but apart from that there was nothing much to love. The real problem however, lies in Atrocious' being Spanish. Now I'm not one of those types that will refuse to watch a film simply because it isn't in English, chuck me some subtitles or a dialogue-light premise and we're good to go. Unfortunately, Found Footage Horror and poor audio dubbing make strange bedfellows to say the least. The end result is that there's absolutely no suspension of disbelief to be had, which (apart from being cheap) is sort of Found Footage's whole thing. I'd quite like to hear from someone who *does* speak Spanish, and manages to find a copy of the film in its original language, to see what they thought of it. Unfortunately, I can only respond based on my own personal experience, which was pretty poor. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member To wait for the ending of this movie to find out what happened is just a waste of time. This movie is not scary or terrifying. In fact people really need to put those stupid camera down and maybe they can save some lives. Boring movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member La película se cae por el final. The film fails in The end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
