ATTACHMENT is a horror romance about Maja, a has-been actress in Denmark, who falls in love with Leah, a young, Jewish academic visiting from the UK. When Leah suffers a mysterious seizure, Maja fears their whirlwind romance might be cut short and decides to follow Leah back to her home in London. There, Maja meets her new downstairs neighbour: Leah’s mother, Chana. An overbearing, seemingly religious and highly secretive woman, Chana seems resistant to all of Maja’s attempts to win her over. And as Maja notices strange occurrences in the building, she begins to suspect that Chana’s secrets could be much darker than first anticipated.

Critics Consensus

A possession thriller that knows the devil's in the details, Attachment scares some fresh angles out of a well-worn horror subgenre.

For horror fans that as compelled by creative ideas as style or execution, “Attachment” embraces what to many may be a new or different text, but it’s clearly knowledgeable about the traditions of the genre — and deeply faithful to its spirit. Go to Full Review

Dan S Jun 25 Attachment is heartfelt and thematically rich, with strong performances and cultural nuance. But as a horror film, it plays things a little too safe—leaving it more touching than terrifying. A modest success with a unique voice. See more James D 11/03/2024 Not terrible... But I can't say I'd recommend this one unless you're looking for a run of the mill queer love story turned possession flick you've seen 100 times already. See more Orlando C @orrman 06/20/2024 Well, y'all got me again - this time though both critics and audience. So nothing happens for about an hour. That's a disappointment. The "romance" between the two women is pretty forced. Basically a one night stand leads to the love affair of a lifetime. They could've cut out some snoozer plot elements in the middle of the story to at least flesh out the relationship a bit so it didn't come off so contrived. Then comes the the third act denouement. This movie starts off in first gear then gently down shifts into neutral. The "horror" here is so tepid and derivative, it basically elicits yawns. The method for getting rid of the demon could've been written on a napkin. Just a a couple of questions that are asked that really don't hold any weight. There's no clever mechanism to trick the demon into revealing what's being asked. It can basically just say "no" with no consequences or ignore the questions entirely. The exorcism is so boring and aimless, the demon, apparently as bored as the audience, basically wraps things up by announcing what's gonna happen next just to get it over with. See more James B @Madstylesnz 02/24/2024 A brilliant Danish gem. See more Thom G 02/22/2024 Attachment is more of a drama movie dressed in a horror shell. It is a well-crafted film that offers psychological realism, relatable characters with their vulnerabilities, and situations and emotions that many viewers will likely resonate with.
