John Hartl Seattle Times The picture does have its plodding moments - but there's enough left over for the rest of us to have a reasonably good time. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 27, 2011 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's a colossal Stella Artois ad. Rated: 1/5 Jul 22, 2010 Full Review Ian Freer Empire Magazine Although at times it feels a little too packed, taking a closer look into fascist times, war and the notorious Italian mafia through the eyes of every day people is refreshing. Rated: 3/5 Jul 22, 2010 Full Review Simon Miraudo Quickflix I'm all for bloated, confusing, directorial vanity projects like Synecdoche New York and 8 1/2. But Synecdoche New York and 8 1/2 this ain't. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 6, 2011 Full Review Ellen E Jones Total Film Baaria is like a pleasant package holiday: alfresco dinners, strolls through lemon orchards. Rated: 3/5 Jul 29, 2010 Full Review Allan Hunter Daily Express (UK) If you have ever smiled at a Bertoli commercial it could be just the film for you. Audience Member Beautiful classical Tornatore, mastery of light, picture and storytelling, i believe it is very personal. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member In Tornatore movies, a person is born and grows up to the point where in the blink of an eye he sees that the world has come to an end and is going through his memories, going through life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Tornatore needed a more stern editor to help him shave this epic down to a more manageable size. However, there are too many absolutely beautiful and heartfelt scenes to give this movie anything but respect. Heart wrenching and sentimental beginning to end. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Between 2.5 and 3 stars. Although the movie is funny and has the power to describe the life in one Sicillian town during fascism, war and post-war, it aspires to too much; wants to tell too many things, and it is not only that is long, is that events happen at too much speed, seeming too light in some moments. So, not bad, not one of the best from Tornatore, but he always have tender details in this tribute to his hometown. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member One Of My Favorite Holiday Movies . Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
