      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It has its moments, but Bachelorette ultimately plays it too safe with its trio of unlikable leads, betraying them with a predictably sentimental final act that undermines the bracingly honest humor preceding it.

Kaydyn W Wow.. I thought I was going to enjoy this movie but my experience was anything but that. The main characters are super unlikable and I struggle to believe that these girls have been "friends" for so long. Terrible movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Test T This film is crude and nasty. On the plus side, it does make it's own rules as it walks a unique path through a genre that can so often be cliched and predictable. The trouble is, it's frank approach leaves the viewer feeling disconnected. When the film ends you won't care about anything you've seen. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Lisa C Painful. Plot was terrible from the beginning. Why would the sweet bride have these horrible people as bridesmaids? I'm sure she would have made nicer friends after high school. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/22 Full Review danielle r Fat shaming, lots of casual R-word use, bullying, extreme selfishness and betrayal, SO MUCH FAT SHAMING, suicide jokes, casual OD-ing, objectification, hateable characters (like, all of them) and a ton of ridiculous & unrealistic decisions and plot points. There's not even a necessary tone change for a likable resolution- it just keeps on going right up until the end. It's hard to watch from start to finish, but try it if you're curious, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️ PS: Horatio Sanz is listed as ‘barely attractive guy' in the credits; just one indication of how the writer(s) of this film clearly have serious physical insecurities that they should talk to someone about… Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A pretty good cast populates this attempt at a somewhat raunchy female led comedy. Rebel Wilson, Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan round out the main stars as they gather for Rebels wedding. There's nothing very funny going on, and I found the best scenes were the more dramatic ones peppered in there. It's not a bad movie, just thought it was a missed opportunity with the talent on display. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Some laughs in it but it really is just the lower budget of "Bridesmaids" Women behaving crudely and bad. Nina Autostraddle You don't have to relate to their bad choices to understand the bizarre nature of female friendships. Screw The Hangover; Bachelorette is where it's at. Aug 13, 2021 Full Review Anna Smith metro.co.uk The comedy's anarchic tone is refreshing but it leaves little room for heart. You'll laugh, but you might feel a bit hollow inside. Rated: 3/5 Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Punch Drunk Critics We always want women behaving badly, don't we? And damn, are Dunst and Co. good at it. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy It would be a major mistake to think that Bachelorette is simply a rip-off of Bridesmaids with a healthy dose of Mean Girls stirred into the mix. This comedy clearly marches to its own beat. Rated: 3/4 Sep 22, 2021 Full Review Camilla Long Sunday Times (UK) The film is simply unbelievable; it's ruined not by the actresses or the script, but by the tone -- and not just ruined: destroyed, mashed into a pulp. Rated: 2/5 Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Emily Rems Bust Magazine Bridesmaids it's not. Mar 7, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
