Kim Newman Empire Magazine It's a one‑off weirdie, offputting for whole stretches but unforgettable, not for everyone but highly recommended to the discerning. Rated: 4/5 Oct 23, 2020 Full Review David Stratton Variety Ultimately, this dark mirror on the world provides an extraordinary panorama of humanity and the environment in the 1990s. Mar 24, 2009 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out This proficient film is never less than intriguing. It may be muddled, but one can't deny its ambitions, or the integrity of Hope's performance. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Jack Hawkins HeyUGuys A proverbial cult classic that's as wild and unpredictable as its primitive central character. Please, watch this instead of Forrest Gump. Rated: 5/5 Jan 13, 2021 Full Review Alan Jones Radio Times Hugely effective at best, irritating and shocking at worst, you won't ever have seen anything quite like this one. Rated: 3/5 Oct 23, 2020 Full Review Anton Bitel Projected Figures this dark satire-cum-parable (cling)wraps itself in a quirkily beautiful aesthetic that keeps us watching even when the material is at its most repellent or alarming. The C Just an incredible film, a roller coaster through grim then uplifting, though mostly grim, it's a completely worthwhile experience you'll never forget. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/24 Full Review john w A classic, everyone should watch this movie at least once, I've seen it countless times and I love it more each time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Murwillumbah L Sometimes people can't remember if they have seen a movie or not. If you have seen this movie you will remember it for the rest of your life, no question. Masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Karen C One of the worst movies ever made. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/09/23 Full Review Mitchell C The movie is a great metaphor for Plato's allegory of the cave. Also given a real zest being set and filmed in early 90's Australia. The tonality of abrasive accents and phrases from this location and era gives the film a uniqueness. A deeply creative and important psychological journey awaits for the viewer if they can stomach the first 30 minutes. Until the main character steps into the light. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/23 Full Review Courtney K ...i don't know how to review this, haha. the beginning is very sad & quite disturbing, but there couldn't've been a happier ending. you watch this grown man - who's mentally still a child due to his awful parent(s) - start from nothing & figure out how to survive on his own amongst a bunch of strangers; I'm surprised he didn't get into more trouble than he did. some parts are hard to watch but it really was quite a hopeful journey. i watched this film a few weeks ago & still find myself thinking about it every once in a while. i don't think i'd recommend it to anyone i know, but I'm not sad i watched it.
