      Critics Consensus

Loaded up with the same scatological and misanthropic humor as its predecessor but precious little of its heart or genuine wit, Bad Santa 2 presents a foulmouthed shadow of Christmas past. Read critic reviews

      Movie Info

Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie Soke (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is chubby and cheery Thurman Merman, a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie's horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke, who raises the bar for the gang's ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behavior.

Audience Reviews for Bad Santa 2

Incredibly crass and vulgar, Bad Santa 2 is even more offensive than the first one. After getting a hot tip about a job in Chicago, Marcus recruits Willie for another Christmas heist. Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks join the cast and get stuck in rather demeaning roles. And the absence of Bernie Mac and Lauren Graham is really felt. Additionally, the humor, besides being extremely raunchy, is mean spirited. Bad Santa 2 is an ugly and degrading film that tries to be as profane as possible.

I feel like Bad Santa 2 suffers from what Iâ(TM)m gonnaâ(TM) call the Sin City 2 effect, where itâ(TM)s more of what you loved but maybe too little too late. A lot of the criticism this movie gets is downright unfair. Iâ(TM)ve heard people say that the movie lacks the heart of the original and goes far more crass and gross-out, and Iâ(TM)m going to disagree. In terms debauchery, it feels about the same, aside from the end credits scene that goes a bit too far. Iâ(TM)d argue if anything peoples sensitivities have gotten stronger in the years since the original so itâ(TM)s almost fascinating seeing them criticize this movies debauchery where the first one was praised for it. And the heart, maybe itâ(TM)s not as in your face, but itâ(TM)s there; without getting into spoiler territory there is a message about family that I really liked. Itâ(TM)s a bit odd defending this movie because I really wasnâ(TM)t even that much of a fan of the first film. Maybe thatâ(TM)s why I was more easy on this one, I donâ(TM)t know. But I liked this one about as much as the first one. It goes a little bit into repeat, but considering the type of character itâ(TM)s portraying that actually kind of works, and it even addresses it. I liked how Willie says at the beginning after every happy ending thereâ(TM)s just more s***. Itâ(TM)s nihilistic as hell, but it works for this type of dark comedy. Billy Bob Thornton is still great, and an adult Thurman Merman is actually really fun. Itâ(TM)s not great, but for a Bad Santa sequel itâ(TM)s about what I needed.

A massive drop in quality compared to the first Bad Santa movie, and although Kathy Bates was a welcome addition to the series, based on this entry, I don't think we're likely to ever see a Bad Santa 3.

I was SO into this movie right from the start but after Willie punched his mother in the face, my enthusiasm died a bit. When did it become funny to punch your mother in the face?! I don't know about you but I didn't find it funny at all.Other than that, Bad Santa 2 was just as hilarious as the 1st.After all the bad reviews I read for it, I wasn't expecting to like this movie at all but I did. It's almost the same as the 1st with Willie & Marcus back together again, Thurman Merman returns as well, Willie's mother is involved now, You know there's going to be a double cross or 2 & there's a ton of rude, lewd, crude humor so if you're not into that sort of thing then Bad Santa 2 isn't for you.I'm pretty sure I only saw the regular version so I can't wait to get a look at the unrated edition. This movie would have been perfect if not for the scene of Willie punching his mother in the face.If they would have cut the punch out then this movie would've been great & I would've given it a higher rating.I hope there will be a part 3 in the near future & we won't have to wait as long as we did for the sequel
