It's admirable that she's trying to defy convention here, but the result is something ultimately too befuddling to disturb. Go to Full Review

11/14/2019 I'm the director of Ballet Blanc. Writing and directing this movie, I totally left my creativity guiding me into this twisted and bizarre world that transfixed my imagination, knowing I would dive into this story with no predetermined rules. I was guided by the principle that ‘nothing is what it seems;' I wanted to show a side of the world that hides mysteries, unbeknownst to most of us, affecting our perception of reality. I wanted to make the audience scratch their head, striving to make sense of what they saw in the best Hitchcockian tradition. My favorite part of art is how subjective and personal it is; there is no wrong or right, no set path or rules to follow. Thanks for watching! See more 11/14/2019 Although with an indie budget but with solid production values -- it's the type of movie that grows on you, starting slowly and inconspicuously, leaving you glued to the screen and emotionally vulnerable. The little boy at the center of the action seems so innocent and likable, but as his true purpose and grand design comes to light -- we slowly discover a side of Evil we didn't suspect. Going beyond your standard horror fare -- this movie tackles large existential questions while providing a contemporary point of view on the degradation of society. Though superior acting, elegant cinematography and unpredictable twists and turns -- you will be transported on a journey you will not soon forget. Scary, yes, but it's really the edgy ambiance of this movie that draws you in and doesn't let go. See more 11/13/2019 Anne-Sophie Dutoit's Ballet Blanc is a complex, nuanced horror-thriller that sweeps you on an emotional journey through the deepest recesses of the mind. It breaks down convention for the horror genre, making us bond intimately with the young protagonist's innocence and deranged mind. In the tradition of 2001, A Space Odyssey (one of my all-time favorites -- albeit in a completely different genre and budget league) -- it's a movie that grows on you through a non-predicable structure -- making you tackle existential questions about life, death and the unknown. The film does not provide the clear narrative and easy entertainment cues mainstream critics may expect -- but as such could well become a cult favorite over time. Not to be missed.
