Audience Member Richard Fleischer directed this action filled western set during the Mexican Revolution. Robert Mitchum plays a gunrunner trying to play both sides against the other, but he ends up having to choose sides. It's not a particularly memorable western, but I always love this wetting, which was, of course, done best by Sam Peckinpah in "The Wild Bunch." Max Steiner provides a rousing score and the fast paced screenplay was written by frequent Fleischer collaborator Earl Felton, who also wrote "20000 Leagues Under the Sea20000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Narrow Margin." And one interesting factoid I read about this film is that many of the older Mexican extras were former soldiers of Pancho Villa and others were former government troops who fought them. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Set in 1916 during the Mexican revolution. Robert Mitchum is the best thing about the film. Slow paced, color Western set in Mexico about Mitchum, an American who through the use of his new grenades and new machine gun turns the tide of a battles against government troops. Not a rebel himself, Mitchum still assists the rebels find a shipment of guns. There is a romance angle to this film as Mitchum gets involved with a government prisoner's wife. The camerawork was nothing really special although Max Steiner did the musical soundtrack.
