I get the old-fashioned treatment (or the ABCD film-making), but it reduces the medium to a footnote; the depth of the premise—of one subcontinental family having to occupy the reality and fictions of another—rarely registers.

The film focuses more on the emotional impact of Partition and explores the shared humanity within Islam and Hinduism. Its central message is one of unity. It is not really a historical or political film. It is about people standing together against oppression and injustice, regardless of religion. Overall, it was an emotional film, although some of the action scenes were ridiculously over the top and made very little sense.
