Audience Member This follow up to 2006's Small Town Gay Bar has producer Kevin Smith and director Malcolm Ingram look into another aspect of GLBT life, Bear Culture. Unlike STGB there isn't really much of a story here as there really isn't much of a story to tell. The questions of body issues, coming out as a bear, finding a niche in a culture that you don't quite fit in are all kind of covered in a few talking heads. When they run out of things to talk about, Kevin Smith pops up in his apparent self-taken title of a bear icon. I'm not quite sure what a straight married guy has to do with it. Aside from the handful of talking heads the only other insights into bear culture are an odd glimpse at Bear Pride in Chicago and a brief look at the London club night XXL. No P'town. No bear runs, no Hy-bear-nation. I'm not convinced the world really needs a documentary about bear culture, but if you are going to make one, a bit more research wouldn't have gone amiss. A piss poor effort and a touch of ego stroking from Kevin Smith. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member lovely documentary on gay bear culture Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A good introduction to gay bear culture, and its schisms within. Still would like to see something address the lack of racial diversity in the bear community, but that's another documentary...
