60% Tomatometer 5 Reviews A timely and relevant story of revolt against greed and apathy for the working class, Beate shows how different walks of life can come together and unite against a common enemy. After receiving notification via group text message that they are being laid off, the hardworking female employees of the Veronica garment factory decide to "borrow" some of the factory's equipment to produce their own line of lingerie. Lead by factory forewoman Armida, the group is determined to overcome the odds and make their business a success, despite their lack of resources. Armida enlists the help of nuns from a nearby convent in the cross hairs of a greedy developer who wants to turn it into a resort, devising a plan for both the nuns and factory workers to work together to save the convent and grow the new lingerie business. However, the team soon comes under attack from the owner of Veronica, the developer, and the convent's Mother Superior, from whom the whole operation had to be kept secret. Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's charming in the vein of The Full Monty. Apr 21, 2021 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times Finocchiaro's feisty performance is sabotaged by a script that scrambles her character's motivations, while an out-of-left-field personal dilemma dulls the climactic fallout (and the entire point of the movie, really). Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Marie Asner Phantom Tollbooth The humor in Beate comes from unusual places. Facial expressions, quips, and situations. Rated: 3/5 Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Neely Swanson Easy Reader (California) A fluffy shaggy dog story with appealing leads, an engaging story, and a fun, predictable ending. Apr 15, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Shockingly, it never occurred to the producers that making a movie with female heroines and villains could have used a woman or two behind the camera to give it a feminine touch or point of view.
