Stephen Romei The Australian If you go to this film be prepared for it to be a bit melodramatic, a bit over the top, a bit showy, a bit purple in its prose, a bit like a Billy Idol song. Once I realised that and got into its over-self conscious groove I quite enjoyed it. Rated: 3/5 May 30, 2025 Full Review Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald Even after more than 2½ hours, the story of this couple feels less than fully resolved - but where [Gilles Lellouche is] concerned, the prospect of following them further into adulthood may not hold much interest. Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2025 Full Review Justin Chang The New Yorker The result is much too long at nearly three hours, but I can’t say I didn’t warm to its rambunctious cornball charm. May 30, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney AWFJ.org A sturdy and at times bruising view of an all-encompassing teen romance, even if the final third doesn’t quite live up to what came before. Rated: 3/5 May 13, 2025 Full Review Pablo Vázquez Fotogramas An adrenaline-filled tragedy in two acts, shot with the brilliance of the masters, the raw brazenness of its protagonists stands out...[Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Feb 3, 2025 Full Review Philipp Engel Cinemanía (Spain) The enthusiasm for making great cinema is evident, but it does not go beyond the screen. Khaliel P There’s a basic rule in filmmaking — taught in every film school — that zooms should be used sparingly, ideally no more than twice in an entire film (because it looks amateurish and cheap). And I’m talking about zooms, not tracking shots. It was already outdated by the late ’80s. But Lellouche decided to use zooms in every single shot. The result is a visually unbearable experience. There are also completely pointless scenes (the dance scene to show they’re in love? Really?) that drag on way too long. The film is already 2h46 long for a story that’s been told hundreds of times — the sweet, smart girl falling for the bad boy — Grease already nailed that in 1978. And the ending? You see it coming from miles away. Obviously what we’re shown at the start isn’t the real ending — otherwise, there would be no point to the film at all. In the end, the cast is excellent and they alone earn the film an average score, but the direction is far from good and the script is seriously weak. The so-called ‘crazy love’ from the title? Nowhere to be found. Just a pretty basic relationship. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Julia W I don't get people who didn't enjoy Beating Hearts. Full of hope, great actors and breathtaking cinematography. I cried a few times during the movie. It didn't feel long at all. Cinema at its peak. One of my favorite movies ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Jyri J If you needed a reason to love cinema, Beating Hearts would be it. It is everything a good movie should be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/25 Full Review Kamilla A Besser als alle Hollywoodfilme in letzter Zeit! Nostalgie pur und sehr emotional, tolle Kamera und tolle 80/90er Musik, tolle Schauspieler! Ich bin verliebt in diesen Film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/25 Full Review Ambre S This movie is a masterpiece cinematographic was directed by Gilles Lellouche in 2024. The acting is really well led by Adèle Exarchopoulos, François Civil, Malik Frikah and Mallory Waneck in the role of Clotaire and Jackie the two main characters. Despite the length of the film which lasts 2h46. The plot is very captivant because she talks about the love of two teenagers and the passion they have for each other despite the illegal activities and the prison that separated them. Be going to they will end up together or separate and not live their love as he wanted ? In my opinion I really recommend this movie because its plot is really intriguing and captivating, time passes really quickly. It’s really one of the best French movies. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Carl W watching the retro introductory credits i was reminded of cecil b demil epic movies and this was certainly an epic at nearly two and a half hours. a musical, a thriller, a long drawn out romance, a punkish soundtrack kept it moving and the incarnations of the romantic leads were well cast. tragedy, love, friendship, family and violence oscillated between cliche and moments of genuine feeling.
