Critics Consensus

Beckett brings a propulsive energy to its man-on-the-run story, but this rather thinly written thriller fails to consistently engage.

Linda Holmes NPR It could be a lot better. It could be a lot stronger as it approaches the finish. But there's something to be said for watching a guy hide in a car trunk and think, "For him, this is probably the best part of his day." Aug 21, 2021 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News "Beckett" isn't horrible but it seems uncertain as to what it truly wants to be. Rated: 2/4 Aug 19, 2021 Full Review K. Austin Collins Rolling Stone The premise is ripe; the thrills are rich; the payoff doesn't come together quite as easily as the rest. But much of what's here is good -- more interesting for verging on the ridiculous. Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film I couldn't help but be blown away by how skillful Filomarino is as a filmmaker, especially because it's his first English-language film. Go in with low expectations, and it might just take your breath away. Rated: A Mar 6, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Beckett is a throwback to 70s thrillers that’s easily dismissible. Rated: 2/5 Oct 9, 2022 Full Review Mitchell Beaupre Awards Radar As is the case with Frantic, the unique setting and socialization of Beckett gives it an idiosyncratic European flavor, a sort of arthouse spin on a generic American thriller. Mike K It seems young actors never get their due .No critic ev n mentions Washingtons name.i think he's a solid actor. I would give it a 68% Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/25/25 Full Review Takis T Interesting idea as it takes place in Greece (not too many films from Hollywood are filmed in Greece) but badly conceived and badly written and executed. Since I am Greek I can guarantee you that very few people in Greece speak near perfect English like the characters in this film do and even more so in the Greek province where at least half of the film takes place. If you add to that, a storyline that gets increasingly less believable as the film progresses, you end up with the good ole "what could have been" but wasn't. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Filippos S It could be a lot better. He messed up a lot somewhere. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Jonathan S Apart from an outlandish stunt towards the end, a very feasible thriller where the hero, a brave Everyman, stumbles across a sinister political plot. Exciting action. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/20/25 Full Review Kyle M A tourist’s nightmarish scenario turned into a decent thriller, mainly dependently driven by John David Washington’s performative emotional roller coaster in a diegetic process including responsivity when the plot eventually convolutes its wavering aim alongside attempting timely provocation. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Manny o Literally the worst movie of all time. Couldn’t stand the lack of dialogue and emotion. I don’t even know how this is a movie. Waste of two hours Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/25 Full Review Read all reviews
