Audience Member It plays like a Gangster film parody and as a Gangster film parody, it works. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Top to bottom, left to right, front to back, this movie was painfully and embarrassingly awful. A massive disappointment. Acting, writing, cinematography, editing, pace... all of it absolute trash. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting and pacing of this movie was incredibly amateurish for a person like Deepa Mehta at the helm. The editing was whack, the cinematography poor and the music...oh my god, the music. There was real potential here for a gripping and under looked story, but sadly, it devolved into a bad TV movie gangster film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The costumes are killer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member One of those well produced Canadian films that just missed the mark. Some of the writing was just a bit off, and a few of the actors were just bad (Josh described it as they were theatre actors who were not used to acting for movies). For a movie about drug dealers, they showed very little drug dealing, and you had to just believe the characters when they talked about their illicit activities and how "bad" they are, and how much money they were making. There was a good amount of graphic violence, and a few good performances, one by the traitorous guy in particular, and a nice short part from Canadian all-star Paul Gross. I liked how it was Canadian in it's images and locations, and I will definitely read more about it to learn how it was based on true stories. Overall, a fun little Canadian movie, just could have been better written and acted. Watched at the Globe Cinema, a free screening presented by the University of Calgary, which had the director in attendance, as she is giving a lecture at the University tomorrow on violence, with Josh, February 2, 2016. Peter Howell Toronto Star In Beeba Boys, Deepa Mehta channels her inner Tarantino for a noteworthy change of pace, one that pursues her career-long inquiry into identity and the immigrant experience with explosive results. Rated: 3/4 Oct 16, 2015 Full Review Kate Taylor Globe and Mail In a film that does have a reliably twisting crime plot with a satisfying denouement, there is too much action to do any of this emotional material justice. Rated: 2/4 Oct 16, 2015 Full Review Andrew Barker Variety The tone never quite gels, leaving the film an eye-catching but weightless mishmash of hit-and-miss one-liners and bloody yet non-visceral firefights. Sep 14, 2015 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Works best as an examination of culture than as a gangster movie. Hooda is a charismatic and dangerous presence but the movie just doesn't have the swagger Tarantino and Scorsese bring to their work. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Tom Bond One Room With A View Add in some horrible dialogue and weak acting and Beeba Boys threatens to teeter into catastrophe, but Deepa Mehta's slick direction and control of the action does enough to save some dignity. Rated: 2/5 May 4, 2019 Full Review José Teodoro Cinema Scope While based, to whatever extent, on a true story, it is rigorous in its adherence to genre clichés.
