This is somewhat the best new age crime drama I have ever watched with brilliant cast, plot and twists. However, this film elicits the desired response if you are in a forgiving mood. Good stuff for winding down on a week night. When you review a film on Rotten Tomatoes, it gives you a semantic guide to the 5-star rating system. I'm familiar with the 5-star rating system and I reject Rotten Tomatoes' guide, which would have it that I thought of this film "Meh, it passed the time". That is what I thought of the first John Wick film, which started quite strong, so that I understood why the silly main character was doing the silly things he was doing. This action film is a little different. It's not great as cinema compared to good noir, but it is less paranoically obsessive and morally absent than noir. Jimmy is clearly the flawed character who would make the more complex study, leaving Urban's character a sort of Ubermensch of twitch reflexes, endurance, and inability to feel appropriate self-pity, if that last is the stuff of an ubermensch. This all turn's out to be appropriate to the message. God I love moralising in film. Any time I see moralising in film, even shitty Aristotelian/establishment moralising like this, I forget the decline of civilization for a while.
