Omar (Tarik Akan) and Hanim (Turkan Soray) have been married for years, are still in love and have five healthy daughters -- by all accounts a successful marriage, except in rural Turkey, where Hanim's inability to give Omar a son means he is obligated to find a new wife. Though Omar still loves Hanim, and can't afford the dowry a new wife requires, he nevertheless sets about finding a more suitable spouse, even if it means giving up his oldest daughter to do so.
