Between Between God, the Devil and a Winchester and the Italian title of this movie, Anche nel west c'era una volta Dio (God Was In the West, Too, At One Time), I think that it has my favorite Italian western title. And despite a tagline promising "A orgy of bloodletting that very few will survive," it's actually an adaption of Treasure Island but with horses and cowboys. Directed by Marino Girolami (Zombie Holocaust) and written by Tito Carpi (Marta, Tentacles), Manuel Martínez Remís and Amedeo Sollazzo (Primitive Love, Two MafiosI Against Goldginger), this movie works, with the desert sands being the seas and outlaws taking over for pirates. Treasure remains treasure. Future Godfrey Ho victim Richard Harrison plays Father Pat Jordan, who recognizes that the stolen gold belongs to a mission and makes the mission his. Gilbert Roland plays the Long John Silver — he has an iron arm instead of a wooden leg — as Juan Chasquisdo. There are even eyepatches and hooks for hands out here in the west. Sadly, the movie doesn't ever really get exciting despite the two titles that it has. It's a boy's adventure when you need Italian westerns to be filled with blood.

Another spaghetti western with a truly spectacular title. Several parties converge on hidden gold with a priest able to translate the Latin text that reveals its location. An attempted retelling of Treasure Island!

111226: Not sure what to say about this spaghetti western but I will try. The sound and music, the acting, the filming and the not quite matching voice overs are all classic spaghetti. I love it and, as a result, it sucked me in and it kept me in this movie until the end. I say that because I wouldn't likely have stayed otherwise. There is something that I don't like about this film as well and I'm not really sure what it is. Is it the pace, which seemed rather slow, or the somewhat annoying character Juan Chasquisdo and his equally annoying last name of which all the characters refer to him. "Chasquisdo", "Chasquido", "Chasquisdo". Is this a character from other spaghetti westerns? What's with the steel armour he wears on this left hand? Perhaps an explanation would've been good. Regardless, this is classic spaghetti but a not so good movie. IMDB says this film is also known as âAnche nel west c'era una volta Dioâ or â"God was in the West, Too, at One Timeâ
