      Beverly Hills Cop II

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Eddie Murphy remains appealing as the wisecracking Axel Foley, but Beverly Hills Cop II doesn't take him -- or the viewer -- anywhere new enough to justify a sequel.

Farah R Eddie Murphy's wicked humor continues to dominate the screen as Axel Foley, even if this sequel doesn't live up to the quality of its predecessor. The movie offers many of the same tricks as the first one, and the result is lackluster and predictable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review Max N Love this movie. I think this is the best of the trilogy. Beverly Hills Cop 2 is Tony Scott's first good movie, and one of his best. Great action sequences and even funnier moments than the first. Great sequel. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Joel H Beverly Hills Cop II is as if a bunch of teenagers got a Hollywood budget and decided to make a movie. From the dialogue to the story to the action, everything just feels so juvenile. It seems like everyone had a script to stick to except for Eddie Murphy. He just kind of says and does anything he wants, and everyone tells him it's great. But it wasn't great. And, frankly, the cops in this movie are some of the worst I've ever seen. Axel Foley, Billy Rosewood, and John Taggart should have been fired a long time ago. This movie has some amusing moments, but overall, it's a sloppy rehash of the original. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/03/23 Full Review Trenaway E What movie did the critics watch? Because this movie was on-par or better than the first one. Even the audience score of this movie is pathetic, and reading their comments you realize they have no clue about what they are talking about. This movie is great, one of Eddies last great ones he did! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Elizjah R Beverly hills cop 2 deserves more recognition Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review Kazall R While Beverly Hills Cop 2 does have it's moments, it still suffers from it's non-existent plot, dry jokes & too many characters. Leonard Maltin Video Review Any comedy [as] good [as Beverly Hills Cop] warrants a better follow-up than this, and I can’t understand why audiences didn’t feel cheated by this second-rate retread.
