Bhooth Bangla feels like a rejected draft from that universe and that's saying something. There is even a point where you can easily imagine Mere Dholna fitting into the film better than the song that is actually there.

It seems a mix of multiple movies. Cast of Bhool Bhulaiya (with similar storytelling, similar room of mystery without keys, similar song casting of Vidya Balan), a little plot of Maa (Kajol's movie, Back of Home - The Mystery Jungle, and Power of Trees. The movie kept me engaged for 3 hours, so it was a horror comedy the first half was mostly comedy, with a twist in the second half.
