Richard Kuipers Variety A gripping combination of police procedural and coming-of-age drama. Aug 8, 2017 Full Review James Mudge easternKicks.com Taught, haunting and dark in a rewardingly contemplative fashion, it's an amazing achievement for a young director like Mikhail Red Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 26, 2020 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Birdshot" is a very entertaining film, which could have been a masterpiece of the mainstream if not for some faults on the narrative. However, it is a more than encouraging effort for both Mikhail Red and Mary Joy Apostol Dec 23, 2019 Full Review Nathanael Hood Audiences Everywhere Birdshot is a slow-burning drama that's mistakenly described as a thriller because it happens to involve shoot-outs, stand-offs, and moments of unbearable suspense. Aljone P Birdshot tackles law and order versus humanity and it was surprisingly well executed. The actors are all equally impressive. I'll give a big "Bravo" (though it's a bit late) to this directorial debut of Mikhail Red at a very young age. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Characters doesn't seem to react or behave in a typical Filipino manner. Judging from he khaki police uniforms it probably happened during the 70s - however, there are some details that doesn't jive with the era like the pickup truck and the use of disposable lighters. More importantly, you don't use a shotgun with a birdshot shell that way as if you're using a precision rifle- it's for a different purpose. Director lacks real life experience. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A very slow-paced drama with some suspense. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Birdshot was a beautiful done movie. Every frame was eye-pleasing and really showcased the scenery well. The color choices for each scene was really well made. The story really showcased what is wrong with the system and how an average farm girl is caught in the middle. The movie is a slow-burn and a lot of people might find it's pace too slow but it was a good movie overall. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 4/1/2018 We excitedly attempted to watch the film mainly because of the attention it got internationally. And yes, it was included in Netflix. But there are a few things that turn me off. Half baked motivations and loose, unexplained ends. I also didn't like how it tried to be profound and be appealing to the viewing public at the same time, something this film both failed to do by doing both. I really wanted to like the movie, I even watched it 'til the very end (unlike Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials). Watching it through to the end didn't make it better. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Proud to say a PH movie is in netflix. And as usual Red's cinematography is magnificent. However it has the same stigma just like the rest of PH cinema, it falls short of delivering a good story. The opening scenes may intice you but soon enough it becomes a drag. And the huge flaw in the film is the unrealictic actions of the police for a killed PH eagle. In reality it's just a 100k fine. Now the film showcases the police gping all through the trouble of torturing the suspect, all for a bird. C'mon now. Really? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
