Athanase (Philippe Noiret) and Charles-Philippe (Jean Rochefort) are members of a secret French police agency battling international terrorism. Their target is Birgit Haas (Lisa Kreuzer), who is living in Munich under a pseudonym. Realizing that the current political situation is too delicate for an outright assassination, they devise a complicated scheme. Someone must travel to Germany, initiate a sexual relationship with Birgit and then kill her in a "crime of passion."
