Life is all about perspective. After seeing “A Working Man” (2025), a film that was edited and directed until it became a pile of dogshit, it is easier to appreciate “Black Heat” (2024), which is a comparative masterpiece.

Black Heat starts out feeling cheap and low-budget, immediately signaling that viewers are in for a poorly executed experience, though it initially manages to hold attention. The story centers on a husband and wife searching for their daughter, with a plot that attempts a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style adventure but fails miserably. The screenplay is confusing and inconsistent, especially in casting: the wife looks too young compared to her husband, and the daughter appears even younger, making the family dynamic unbelievable and undermining any emotional investment. Attempts at humor feel forced and awkward, and the father’s exaggerated "ghetto" persona is uncomfortable rather than entertaining. The film’s production and direction fail to salvage the narrative, leaving scenes flat, unconvincing, and unengaging. By the end, there’s no real emotional payoff, and the climax falls completely flat. Overall, Black Heat is a poorly executed, miscast, and disappointing film

Action sequence were generic, failed to leverage the environment, and were decoupled from the narrative experience. Actors mumble their lines against a roaring backdrop. There's a 'twist' that was painfully drawn out. The backdrop is both repetitive and bland. Can't recommend it.

I’m honored to say that I’ve currently working with Jason and call him a good friend. His return to the silver screen is well deserved! The film is amazing start to finish. Wes Miller did a great job building the suspense and NLE Choppa is an excellent bad guy!
