Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when two locals act as guides through the dark and winding woods. As the night wears on, a visit from a menacing presence soon makes them realize that the legend is all too real, and more sinister than they could have ever imagined.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Blair Witch doles out a handful of effective scares, but aside from a few new twists, it mainly offers a belated rehash of the original -- and far more memorable -- first film.

Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Complex Blair Witch is probably fascinating for young viewers who had never seen the original movie and didn't live through that hype, but for those familiar, it offers nothing new. Feb 27, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The multiple camera angles ensure that just as dread surges -- the waiting was always the hardest part in The Blair Witch Project -- we cut away to something less nerve-wrecking. Rated: 2/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Scott Tobias GQ The microphones on the tiny digital cameras shouldn't be picking up much, but verisimilitude be damned, because Blair Witch renders every snapped stick, crushed leaf, and distant guttural noise as an ear-blistering assault. Dec 5, 2016 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews The Best Blair Witch Film yet that will be looked at in the future as a great footnote for found footage horror movies. Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Takes the franchise back to its roots with its filmmaking foundation, trading in the subtleties of that debut film for abject terror for a roller-coaster ride of a film. thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas de terror são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/25 Full Review João Victor S Ele tem muitos defeitos, e uma das únicas qualidades é ter oque o outro não tem: sustos e a aparição da bruxa Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review John W The found footage concept isn’t really my favorite genre anyway, but even within that this film isn't good. Especially since the Blair Witch Project was actually very good and created a really creepy atmosphere. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t manage that. It doesn’t come close to the suspense of the original. The body horror scenes were the most uncomfortable part of the film and not a creepy atmosphere like in the first one. There is some more tension towards the end, which is why it wasn’t completely bad, but overall disappointing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/21/25 Full Review Justin T Conceptually I don’t think found footage films have aged well. It was charming back in the nineties as a different way of storytelling but not when everyone has an iPhone or whatever the concept of camcorders and finding the footage is badly dated. The shaky camera was especially nauseating to me in the first half. Story wise it’s a sequel but the formula is identical to the original, albeit greatly finessed. That’s not a bad thing as the production quality is greatly improved with a more refined pace, incredible sound design and more supernatural shenanigans. This is the best of the franchise but that is not saying much as they are all distinctly unremarkable. But that previous sentence is saying a lot about the excellent marketing of the first film without which I would never be writing this review. Credit to the film, it held my attention, had the best claustrophobia scene I’ve ever seen and at least it’s better than Slender Man (2018), well everything is better than that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Garrett P. While not completely unwatchable, it’s definitely the most uninspired of all the movies. Such a shame considering the talent behind the camera. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Colette P With the original Blair Witch Project being one of my favorite horror movies, I certainly enjoyed a sequel that is almost exactly like it. There are some notable changes, the difference in technology, and some of the horror sequences the characters find themself in. But as a whole, this is less of a sequel and more of a remake. The biggest flaw with that is, we are supposed to believe that these characters have watched the footage of the original movie and still decide to go into the woods, only to make most of the mistakes that they saw end the lives of the people on the footage. Unfortunately this little fact sits in the background of every scene making it hard to fully immerse yourself in when you know these characters have seen the same horror movie as you have. They should all be going as a group to relieve waste in the woods, I don’t care how awkward it is, at least they wouldn't be separated in a massive never-ending forest. But it’s still a fun sequel even if it’s not as good as its predecessor. There are some intense scenes and decent scares, mainly cheap jump scares but they work! If you love the original or found footage, I definitely recommend at least trying this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
