A young man and his friends venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery surrounding his missing sister. Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when two locals act as guides through the dark and winding woods. As the night wears on, a visit from a menacing presence soon makes them realize that the legend is all too real, and more sinister than they could have ever imagined.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Blair Witch doles out a handful of effective scares, but aside from a few new twists, it mainly offers a belated rehash of the original -- and far more memorable -- first film.

Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Complex Blair Witch is probably fascinating for young viewers who had never seen the original movie and didn't live through that hype, but for those familiar, it offers nothing new. Feb 27, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times The multiple camera angles ensure that just as dread surges -- the waiting was always the hardest part in The Blair Witch Project -- we cut away to something less nerve-wrecking. Rated: 2/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Scott Tobias GQ The microphones on the tiny digital cameras shouldn't be picking up much, but verisimilitude be damned, because Blair Witch renders every snapped stick, crushed leaf, and distant guttural noise as an ear-blistering assault. Dec 5, 2016 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews The Best Blair Witch Film yet that will be looked at in the future as a great footnote for found footage horror movies. Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Takes the franchise back to its roots with its filmmaking foundation, trading in the subtleties of that debut film for abject terror for a roller-coaster ride of a film. Rated: 4/5 May 12, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A few neat ideas and effective jump-scares might entertain audiences, but the film feels like too little, and more than a decade too late. Kevin K It does a fair job story wise putting the characters in the found footage parameters and the lore of the Blair Witch but it feels very oddly paced all the way up until near the end of the second act. It has some scary parts that certainly deliver something and they do a lot of foreshadowing with the filming gimmicks to make it work, but it just feels far less terrifying than it's predesessor. It feels like it would be a better entry in the V/H/S series which plays purely on found footage limitations so your expectations are pure and simplified. This film though has the expectations of following one of the most influential films in horror that shot up the idea of found footage horror, that is is an extremely hard standard to reach. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Jeff A Will one day be reevaluated as a great addition to a long dead franchise. This film should be regarded as the true sequel to the original. The crawling under the house scene was intense. And this movie gives you more Blair Witch than the original offered. I think it is one of the best found footage movies in a very long time. And if you are gonna do a sequel to a movie that’s already well played out, you might as well go big or go home. That’s what they tried to do. Was a good time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review Luke A Pretty Entertaining. I wish it had more of a 3rd Act. James and Lisa are the best characters in the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/11/24 Full Review Diana L E repetitivo o filme do primeiro Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Ben F I feel like this movie is underrated it's a pretty good movie but not as good as Blair Witch 2 Book of Shadows which is my favorite Blair Witch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Md K This movie is ass.
