By 1978 the giallo film was fading fast Dario Argento had gone all out gothic with Suspiria and his imitators were left floundering. That said this is a pretty solid thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. A series of murders in the shadows of Venice and of course a black gloved killer,it's all pretty good But of course Dario did it better

A professor and his priest brother solve a plague of murders on an Italian island outside Venice. The kind of mystery where the screenwriter hides the identity of the killer by keeping any meaningful clues away from the audience for as long as possible, making it difficult to care about the story.

Solid giallo thriller is entertaining enough, with its lurid plot twists and atmospheric setting. But despite a few offbeat moments, it's a bit too routine to be among the best. Fans of the genre will enjoy it, but it's not one to get anyone initiated.
