The reviews for this are insanely high. Super solid movie to dunk on with your friends, but this movie is goofy at best. It feels like a parody of 8 Mile, but everyone is super serious? It was a good watch, but I kept saying to myself “this is crazy that they’re trying to make this seem real”.

This is the best movie of this genre since 8 Mile, and I'm saying that as a Stan. The CGI was so amazingly crafted to deliver the inner punch lines, that it mashed perfectly with the best fuckin, most hilarious lines ever! This movie is fuckin fire, and it's staying in my top 10 fave movie library.

Sloppy and annoying, but there is some good in here. I expected some politics, but it really beats you over the head while also being indecisive about whether to try to be funny or serious (emphasis on try). The battles were fun and I particularly enjoyed Jonathan Park, even outside of the battles, it's just a shame they couldn't have been in a better movie. The story was all over the place. At first it seemed like the girlfriend was supposed to be Adam's counterbalance (I thought it was hilarious when her jaw dropped at the down syndrome joke), but then she was diminished to just an SJW persona, and then she wanted nothing to do with him. Then Adam lashed out at Oz, and then Oz wanted nothing to do with him. And then Adam got socked in the face by Dizaster who immediately forgave him, declared him the winner, and hugged him... all accompanied by slowmo confetti, a cheering crowd, and epic/cheerful music, all extremely undeserved. There's no resolution between Adam and his girlfriend, or Adam and Oz. Adam didn't grow, and he didn't fall very far.
