Rated: 3/5 Jul 15, 2006 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid this one is quite above average thanks to a brisk, "B"-movie pace (74 minutes) and a superb lead performance by Ryuta Sato. Jul 13, 2006 Full Review Johnny Butane Dread Central Ultimately, The Booth is a good indication of where the younger directors in Japan are heading; taking conventional ghost story elements and updating them with more intelligent plots, filled with twists and turns that keep the audience guessing. Audience Member A fun movie with a welcomed 74-minute runtime. (off topic: i'm really sick of new movies being over 2 hours long. Give it a rest, my attention lasts 90 minutes, max). Unlike some other reviews I read, I don't see this as a horror movie, and I think this being released by "Tartan Asia Extreme" may give viewers the wrong impression. There's nothing extreme about this movie, other than the main character being an extreme jerk. Anyway, this movie plays out more like a short story; a small parable about the risks of being a hypocritical asshole. Karma, some people might say. It's much easier to understand than some other more abstract Japanese films. The plot and execution is simple: Late night radio host starts to realize the stories shared by listeners calling in to his radio show have a lot to do with his own personal life. It escalates. It's incredibly well-paced and never boring, thanks to clever and well-implemented flashback scenes peppered throughout. I rented this movie from my library on a whim (free rentals, can't go wrong) and was, as they say, "pleasantly surprised". Good shit, go watch it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice, solid Japanese ghost story with enough of a twist to keep one from figuring everything out too soon. It deftly combines the psychology of the main character with ghostly goings-on, not giving away when events are being driven by one or the other. A bit of a muddle in small parts, but well worth watching, particularly for Halloween. All in all, better than the majority of J-horror to come along in the past decade or so. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member E chi ci sperava? Direi che dopo "Black Swan" è stata una buona chiosa :) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a smart movie and I recommend it for anyone who's tired of all the ringu rip offs and is looking for something different. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member this movie sucked me in from the beginning and I really enjoyed it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a decent little movie, more like an extra-special episode of the Twilight Zone. Like a lot of so-called J-Horror (and episodes of the Twilight Zone), it kind of straddles the line between horror and psychological whatever. And it's nice and short and quick moving. I don't want to spoil anything, but jeez, this guy may be a douchebag but I still felt bad for him. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
