Terrific a film Rated 4.5/5 Stars •  Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I went to the viewing of this is NYC and I must say this is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Worse than worse. I would have maybe given it some sort of 'ok' if I did not stay and hear what the director had to say in the 'Q&A' session. He seemed to not care for his film by saying "It was not fun to make" and then when someone would say something slightly off, he tried defending the film like no tomorrow. It seemed like a huge mess bundled up together. There was no meaning, he said himself, to some of the things in the film such as the boy beating the chicken or the religious things in the beginning. He basically said he put it in there 'because I saw this happen once' AKA he thought it would look cool. It was INCREDIBLY vulgar for NO reason at all. The mention of weed & 'hash' was over used, WE GOT IT. THEY SMOKE. The characters were a huge mess. The vision of 'the outlook on this town is nice but what goes on in the town is actually VERY bad' was not portrayed AT ALL until the very end with the sunny place and birds chirping. Otherwise, I did not get that at all. This 'film' just makes me angry that it won awards for something that doesn't do ANYTHING and even for the director not caring for his own... "work". The story I guess was to try to "expose" the life style of how this town really is. TOO BAD THAT PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW WEED, SEX & RAPE ALREADY EXIST. The director just was trying way too hard to get shock value, the only thing that shocked me was the language used. I am Turkish but I was raised in America, we Americans are not even THAT vulgar and if things like sex, rape or drugs are brought up, in our films they at least are very natural with it. this film was painful to watch and even more antagonizing that The Fighter was premiering in the same theater but across from our room. All I could think of is "CHRISTIAN BALE IS SITTING ACROSS FROM THIS THEATER ROOM. WHAT AM I DOING HERE?"
