Nell Minow RogerEbert.com While it wavers with heavy-handed dialogue, underwritten supporting characters, and a storyline that veers away from its original grittiness, Manganiello keeps it grounded with a performance of sincerity and heart. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times Odd camera angles and movement make the movie feel like it was directed by a less-seasoned filmmaker, and the script from Robert Bruzio has more fat than would be allowed in a pro athlete's diet. Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara are among the most valuable players in Raymond De Felitta's affecting and effective drama about an ex-con who returns to his field of dreams. Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue It shows an affinity for baseball and a love for New York's cultural melting pot, but this heartfelt working-class redemption drama mostly swings and misses. Sep 7, 2019 Full Review Armond White National Review A rare, affecting baseball film, it's also an unapologetic, unhip redemption tale. Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Bree Duwyn Film Inquiry This film is riddled with clichés and predictability, but still garners an applause for its heartfelt intent and depiction of real life relationships in times of uncertainty. Storm W The movie has its moments, but in general, it's predictable, and it has a really corny ending Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/11/22 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely loved this movie! Warm, from the heart... and the actors are hot! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Great feel good movie! I felt for the main character the whole way through. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review ron t I grew up in NYC, so I enjoyed the gritty Bronx scenery, the Italian food, and the cast. It's a pretty good story, but the long sentence and people calling him a murderer, when it really was manslaughter, made the film a little unbelievable. I liked the chemistry between the leads, and wasn't surprised to find out they are actually married in real life. It's definitely not a great baseball movie, but that really isn't what the story is about. It's definitely one of the better movies on Amazon Prime. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Great story and movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie! A really smart well conceived that connects on a lot of levels... not just baseball and not just coming home from prison. Like ROCKY but with baseball!
