SkyRo P Boy in the Attic (2016) is a thriller currently available on Prime Video, featuring a cast that may not be well-known to many, but brings an ambitious story to the screen. The film centers on a young woman who moves into her late grandmother’s home to get things in order after her passing. Unbeknownst to her, a young man — a fugitive suspected of murder — is secretly living in her attic. His motives aren’t entirely sinister; in reality, he’s innocent and trying to clear his name while staying hidden from a corrupt small-town sheriff who is eager to bring him in, no questions asked. As their bond develops, the young woman finds herself unwillingly drawn into his quest for justice, helping him navigate danger and deception. There’s a rich premise here — a thriller with a twist — pitting the supposed criminal against a flawed legal system and adding a layer of romance to the story. The two leads certainly look the part; their casting feels perfect for the roles, and there’s a nice physical chemistry between them. However, the main actress’s performance falls flat in many scenes. Her delivery comes across as overly dramatic and child-like — giggling and reacting in a way that feels more appropriate for a young schoolgirl with a crush — which undercuts the dramatic tension and makes it hard for the audience to connect with her character’s struggles. The writing, while ambitious, isn’t fully supported by the dialogue. There are numerous moments where conversations feel stilted or shallow, preventing the story from adding depth to its thriller premise. Instead of letting scenes breathe or letting the character’s motives come across organically, the script rushes through key points and reduces dramatic exchanges to cliché exchanges. Ultimately, Boy in the Attic is a film with an intriguing story and strong casting choices that falters in its execution. The main actress’s performance and weak dialogue undermine what could have been a captivating thriller. It’s a shame because there were glimmers of potential — a unique premise, an unconventional love story, a small town setting — but it fell flat due to poor delivery and underdeveloped writing. It’s a film you may find yourself fast-forwarding through just to get to the resolution. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
