I tried to keep track of where we were based on hair length, but that was no help. I counted at least three different, badly-interwoven eras, none of them satisfying or, for that matter, vaguely entertaining. Maybe not such a good idea to cast a 40-year-old in the lead, with a 30-year-old trying to play a teenaged brother, and a 70-year-old dad. And an attractive 27-year-old woman is supposed to be attracted to a serial liar, sadomasochist drug addict with a pudgy body? Had I not promised to watch all of it based on a recommendation from a good friend, I would have shut it off about 10-15 minutes into it. He and I are gonna have a serious talk about this ... See more M E @Western-Critic Mar 1 I give it an extra half star for the scenery in the latter half of the film. Otherwise, I found the "blizzard survival" portion of the film utterly unconvincing. SPOILER ALERT. How could a tough, farm-raised boy go into the high country so utterly unprepared (and, come to that, how did a veteran bronc rider let his horse get away from him, and get tangled in a rope and dragged, in the process? The main character is not very likable or interesting, and the plot of the movie is somewhat bland. I do think that the flashbacks during his survival period were thoughtful and well executed. The tension between dad and oldest son was bone chilling good. I really wanted to know more about the brother and what happened to him. They gave us a taste but I wanted them to let me finish the meal. Tim Treakle See more Frank C @fishyfrank Jan 5 I like the story about a young man coming to grips with learning about what is important and realistic in life. He learned in the school of hard knocks but was able to get his act together. As an older outdoor person I find the cabin stay overdone and not very realistic and maybe a bit long. I am also aware that I was not a typical viewer. My wife could hardly watch the guy suffering. She may not be typical either. LOL See more Read all reviews
