Reverse the Curse follows Ted (Logan Marshall-Green), a failed writer-turned-Yankees Stadium peanut slinger who moves back home after learning of the failing health of his Red Sox-obsessed father, Marty (David Duchovny). While Marty strives to make amends for his past, his health drops abruptly whenever his beloved Sox lose a game. To keep his dad's spirits up, Ted takes matters into his own hands and manufactures a winning streak with the help of a crew of dad's neighborhood pals. In the process, Ted strikes up a bond with Marty's charming "Death Specialist," Marianna (Stephanie Beatriz), and the prospect of a new love reignites his ambitions. An ode to the bond between father and son, this warm and witty film demonstrates how life truly belongs to the losers, and that the longshots are the ones worth betting on.

Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Duchovny the director never bothers to ground his melodrama in something that feels real, missing the target on the period in which it’s set and an honest understanding of the people who live and die on the success and failure of their favorite teams. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times Duchovny’s smarts are commendable, theoretically, but the movie falls short of compelling. And for all the novelistic details that he packs in, “Reverse the Curse” moves at the pace of a self-defeating snail. Jun 14, 2024 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Even though that ending includes an epilogue we could see coming like a hanging change-up right down the middle, you can’t help but choke up... Rated: 3/4 Jun 13, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Reverse the Curse awkwardly fumbles its attempts to balance sarcasm and sappiness. This comedy/drama has too much phony-sounding and lackluster dialogue in portraying a volatile father-son relationship affected by the 1978 World Series. Jul 11, 2024 Full Review Dana Barbuto Boston Movie News Duchovny plays a cantankerous cancer patient, giving new meaning to the term diehard Red Sox fan. Rated: B+ Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media A passion project by Duchovny, this father-son dramedy resorts to some hokey moments to keep its "lie" plot afloat, but its emotions and love of baseball are genuine. Omar B Journey of love, laughter, pain and honesty. Movie reminds us that family may hurt us but we always have to have their backs when they need us the most and to be brave in order to avoid such life mistakes from repeating themselves but can we truly stop the same mistakes the ones before us have made? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Audience Member Sweet. Profound. Funny. Tragic. Hopeful. It's a tender yet heavy masterpiece. Well done all around. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Les N Harrowing ending. Don't watch if you are depressed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/24 Full Review William W Waste of time and money, the son looks as old as the Dad, would’ve been more interesting if they were lovers but I doubt the actors in those roles could pull it off. The accent and the wig on the son were ridiculous and I say this as someone who wants more baseball films. Thumbs down. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review neide a Wonderful, sensitive, exciting. Everything a film should be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review julie w This is a beautiful film. My Dad wasn’t anything like Marty, but I could relate to Ted’s desire to do something completely ridiculous to keep his Dad alive. The theme of baseball being the key to life resonated strongly with me-even though I’m a lifelong Yankees fan. (As is Duchovny, so he gets props from me just for convincingly portraying a Red Sox fan) Our parents are mostly a mystery to us for most of our lives, we don’t see them as people with lives of their own-they’re just Mom and Dad. When you see your parent as someone who had the same kind of loves and fears and disappointments that you’ve had in your life, that’s when you can really love them as whole people. Duchovny has given us a sweet story with just enough humor to be real. Don’t listen to the critics, watch it for yourself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
